Display Tips

As children in key stages 1 and 2 focus more on practising key skills and consolidating their learning throughout the key stages, Schofield & Sims' books sell steadily throughout the year. Of course, our revision guides and practice papers will sell in higher quantities before SATs tests, and sales of educational books are high in September! Therefore there is a constant demand for our products from parents, concerned about their children's education, as well as from teachers.
The educational market in bookselling is one that is not always tapped into anything like as successfully as it could be. However, the numbers of children in early years and key stages 1 and 2 at any one time dictate that the market for practice workbooks and other educational resources is going to be sizable, especially with continued and formal testing. Knowing what products are widely trusted and recommended by teachers and above all sell well is the key to stocking the right books, making the right recommendations and generating sales. With this in mind, here are some tips for stocking educational books:
- Books in a series should be stocked in the same density as demand. The 3-2-1 rule applies: books 1 and 2 in a series of six will sell at twice the rate of books 3 and 4 and at three times the rate of books 5 and 6
- All Schofield & Sims books are saddle stitched, which means they don't have a spine and are therefore not easy to display effectively and pick out from a shelf. By using zigzag shelving, customers and booksellers are able to see the vertical stripe on the front cover of the books, which gives them all the information they need
- As all our workbooks are colour coded by this stripe, booksellers are enabled to stock products in the correct place and keep shelves tidy
