Product description for teachers and tutors

This is a series of 25 comprehension exercises designed to give pupils practice in studying and understanding different forms of written passages and in solving questions raised from their reading. These exercises are intended as a continuation of the Reading Comprehension exercises for Key Stage 1.

The passages provide a wide range of reading experience through extracts from children's fiction both classic and modern, factual passages, poetry, newspapers, television listings, adverts, menus and leaflets. The passages also introduce a variety of creative writing opportunities.

They are arranged in the following categories:

  • Units 1- 10 are aimed at level 4 of the National Curriculum
  • Units 11 - 18 are aimed at the top of level 4 moving into level 5
  • Units 19 - 25 are aimed at level 5.

Excellent resources - easy to use and short assessment pieces. Found it really useful and supplied me with a range of AF questions to ask the children on short texts.

As a pack, this is an excellent resource. I am a busy Y6 teacher trying to prepare my class for the end of Key Stage Standard Assessment Tests in May. These reading comprehensions provide clearly levelled examples of similar SAT material. In fact, these materials are better preparation than previous SAT papers. They are shorter and offer a wide range of reading experiences. Texts include fiction, both classic and modern, factual passages, poetry, newspapers, television listings, adverts, menus and leaflets. There are even suggestions for speaking and listening activities, and writing tasks to support each unit. I am very pleased with this teaching resource and have recommended it to fellow Y6 colleagues. Highly recommended!
