From parents and carers using our books at home

Excellent books for my 5 year old. They are easy to use, not too much going on in the pages to distract the child. I’ve used other publishers in the past but now stick to the Schofield and Sims books as they are much clearer and less distractions on the page.

Wonderful books, well thought out exercises from easy to hard which enable a quick check of solid understanding, very helpful for revision or tutoring.

These books are outstanding! Our sons school don’t provide homework books of any kind and we wanted something to help embed his learning. These books have been instrumental. The design is not crazy but calm and enough on the page to not overwhelm. Have already recommended to many friends and even a woman on a train who saw our son’s level of engagement. Thank you!

As a home-educating parent, I have been ordering from Schofield and Sims for over 26 years. I have always found their phone advice invaluable and have used many of their products for all six children - some with special needs and some very academic.

It is has helped my daughter develop her fluency and i like the way the sections have different levels of difficulties.

Excellent! The perfect direct instruction for grammar. Great opportunities to write and proofread. We will certainly be using this through the end of the series.

I discovered the rapid test book series 3 years ago and there is no looking back. They are a brilliant blend of arithmetic and problem solving questions. Being a maths teacher myself I highly recommend them.

How do I select a Mental Arithmetic book?

Mental Arithmetic is a highly differentiated series of graded workbooks proven to raise children's attainment in maths. Based on ability rather than age, each book practises the four basic number operations, challenging children to do more complex problems involving logical thinking and to apply knowledge introduced previously.

Each book has a general age guideline, but you can also choose the appropriate book by using our free Entry Tests. These short assessments help you identify your child's current skill level and find the right starting point in the series, ensuring they're neither overwhelmed nor under-challenged. Simply download the tests, work through them with your child, and use the results to select the book that will provide the most effective practice.

Do your books have answers?

The majority of our books have answers either online via our website or inside the books. All online answers can be found in our Free Downloads page or on the product pages for the individual books.

Clear layouts, helpful explanations and progressive difficulty levels help children identify areas to improve while building confidence step by step. Covering all key areas of English, maths and science for Key Stages 1 and 2, each book includes answers and marking schemes, making it easy for you to support your child's learning at home.
