Tutor FAQs

Can tutors have an account?

Yes, to open an account, please register on our website. You will be able to view your order history and manage your account details. We do not provide any credit facilities to account customers.

Do you offer volume discounts?

The Class set price provides the biggest discount on books and is available for orders of 10 or more copies of the same title. This is available to teachers, tutors and home educators.

What discount do you offer tutors?

As educators, tutors can benefit from the same discounted prices as teachers and schools. These prices are clearly marked on the website and in the catalogue and fall into two categories:

  • Class set price – when ordering 10 or more copies of the same title (excludes teacher's books, answer books and posters)
  • Teacher's price – when ordering fewer than 10 copies of the same title
What differentiates your books from other publishers?

Our books are written by experienced teachers and education specialists who understand how children learn. Every resource is carefully designed to build genuine understanding through structured, progressive practice that meets the needs of all learners.

We prioritise printed resources because research shows they're most effective for developing foundational literacy and numeracy skills. The physical act of working through activities on paper: interpreting instructions, completing tasks independently, and writing by hand, engages multiple cognitive processes that support deeper learning and retention.

Our approach combines proven teaching methods with engaging content that keeps children motivated. Rather than offering quick fixes or flashy gimmicks, we focus on what works: systematic progression, clear explanations, and high-quality practice that builds confidence and mastery over time.

Do your books have VAT?

There is no VAT charged on school books in the UK.

Do you have digital versions of your books?

Some of our books are available in digital formats, but we believe printed resources offer the most effective foundation for young learners. Research consistently shows that handwriting supports learning better than typing. The physical act of writing by hand engages motor skills, visual processing and memory simultaneously, helping children retain and recall information more effectively. This multi-sensory approach has been shown to improve letter recognition in early readers and deepen conceptual understanding across all age groups.

How do I select a Mental Arithmetic book?

Mental Arithmetic is a highly differentiated series of graded workbooks proven to raise children's attainment in maths. Based on ability rather than age, each book practises the four basic number operations, challenging children to do more complex problems involving logical thinking and to apply knowledge introduced previously.

Each book has a general age guideline, but you can also choose the appropriate book by using our free Entry Tests. These short assessments help you identify your child's current skill level and find the right starting point in the series, ensuring they're neither overwhelmed nor under-challenged. Simply download the tests, work through them with your child, and use the results to select the book that will provide the most effective practice.
