New - English Skills

The English Skills workbooks are aligned with end-of-year literacy objectives for Key Stage 2. However, all the books may be used by older or younger pupils, supporting differentiation and personalised learning. Key areas are constantly revisited, giving pupils the rigorous practice they need and widening their written vocabulary.

Every English Skills book is divided into three sections, each comprising 12 one-page tests. Every test covers spelling, word structure, vocabulary, sentence formation, punctuation and grammar. There are also Writing and Proofreading tasks, a literacy Glossary and a simple Progress chart.

Books of Answers (one per workbook) provide explanatory notes for teachers, summaries of question content, correct answers, Writing task assessment sheets and Completed proofreading tasks to facilitate marking.

The separate Teacher's Guide provides Workbook descriptors, photocopiable Entry tests, an Entry test marking key and guidelines on how to determine the level at which a new pupil is working. It also contains instructions for use, copymasters to support target-setting and learning and a photocopiable Group record sheet.

Structured skills practice, as provided by this series, is the reliable route to literacy and will pay dividends for the future success of pupils – right across the curriculum.
