Closely matched to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, Get Set Early Years focuses on the specific areas of Literacy, Mathematics and Understanding the world.
For each of the three areas, there is a Teacher’s Guide full of practical activity ideas that cover all the Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Corresponding activity books promote learning and development across both the prime and specific areas of the framework. Additionally, they recognise the importance of strong foundations in reading, writing and numbers, ensuring children are fully equipped for a smooth transition into school.
Moving from play to structured learning can be challenging for children. Get Set Early Years is designed to help transition smoothly through a variety of fun activities that can be used both inside and outside the classroom.
There are 12 Get Set Activity Books that cover all the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) for Literacy, Mathematics and Understanding the World. The activities provide parents and carers with a clear understanding of the topics and vocabulary that their children are learning in school, as well as an idea of the expectations for children at this age.
Each Activity Book page contains two tasks for the child to complete. Designed to be as engaging and varied as possible, the activities include matching, complete the picture, connect the dots, mazes, picture sequencing, colour by sound, odd one out and many more.
Play and exploration are crucial to early learning and are rightly at the core of all EYFS practice. However, as children near the end of the EYFS, it is also important that there is a gradual shift towards more structured learning activities, group games, vocabulary building and fine motor activities that help to prepare them for the demands of school.
Get Set Early Years ensures that children are equipped to meet the challenges of school in three key ways.
Children have the essential skills and understanding, particularly language and communication skills, but also phonics knowledge, number sense and fine motor skills to secure a positive start to Year 1.
Children are engaged and motivated learners with the concentration and self-regulation skills needed to succeed when learning becomes more structured and independent in Key Stage 1.
Children from disadvantaged backgrounds are given the focused support they need to ensure that they enter Year 1 ready to learn and on a similar developmental footing to their better-off classmates.
Build strong foundations for school readiness with Get Set. Covering maths, phonics, reading and writing, the series provides engaging, age-appropriate activities for nursery and Reception children to develop essential early learning skills.
